"No."
"Mine."
"Right Now."
These are the words I hear at least once every five minutes.
Grady turned two yesterday.
He is the epitome of everything "two".
He loves to sing and dance. My current favorite is his rendition of The Fray's Over My Head.
He can name several colors, count to five, and recognize most of the alphabet (Thank you, Super Why.)
He has a very ferocious dinosaur roar.
He loves to read books (when he is not tearing them).
He loves to play with play dough (when he is not eating it).
He LOVES his big sister and loves to play with her (when he is not hitting her, biting her, or ripping a toy from her hands).
He loves Reese, too. He just doesn't notice him that much. I think that is probably a good thing.
He drinks a lot.
He pees a lot.
I change his clothes and the sheets a lot.
He makes me laugh every day (when he's not making me furious).
He loves to hug, snuggle and kiss (when he's not trying to put you in a head lock with his legs).
He loves to suck his thumb... even more than his sister (who hasn't sucked hers in 14 days!).
He is tough as nails and hardly cries when he falls.
But he will scream like a little girl if a fly comes within ten feet.
He is mesmerized by lawn mowers, weed eaters and blowers.
He has the best hair and most gorgeous blue eyes.
Blessed is the man
This little guy turned two months old yesterday. He met his great grandmother for the first time. You can tell it was love at first sight for both of them. My grandmother used to keep babies back in her prime. And she loved it. She tells me stories of having nine in diapers at one time. Holding Reese and him smiling and cooing at her made her day. Maybe even her week. At least it made the 2 1/2 hour drive up here worth it.
It's been a rough week for the two of us. Long story short, I was not making fat enough milk for my big boy. He lost 2 ounces since his one month check up. I pumped for a day and a half and fed him formula. We went back to the doctor and he had gained 4 ounces... in a day and a half. I thought I would nurse him and give him formula until I could wean him. After the day and a half of the bottle, he wouldn't nurse. I am now pumping to slowly wean myself and he's getting half breast milk and half formula. I am spending more time with the pump than I care to. Maybe we'll go to the movies again.
I can tell he's putting some fat on those bones now. And he's happy. So I am happy. And a little sad. And I just wonder why. I am sure a lot of you can relate.

Hey Linds, I can totally relate to the feelings of sadness, even though it makes no difference in your success as his mommy! I just wanted to say that in the last pic with the kids and your grandmother, Grady looks EXACTLY like Steven. I haven't seen it as clearly as I can in that picture for some reason. I love reading your blog and seeing pics of your beautiful kids. I always said, I can't wait until Steven and Lindsey have babies, because they will be gorgeous, and of course I was right!
i don't know how to tell you that 3 is so much worse for boys. he sounds just like my sethy!! and did you happen to watch the duggars when they were in a parade and michelle was nursing (under her blanket tarp thing) while going down the parade route? i mean, standing on the float, waving at folks, nursing...she is my hero. sorry to hear that reese is basically sucking the life right out of you. and sorry you haven't been able to nurse as long as you had hoped. that sounds tough.
hey friend. i really liked this post. it made me laugh..grady sounds like quite the little character! sorry about the breastfeeding/weaning situation. sometimes i am like, man i just wish i was done breastfeeding! not that i want to quit now, i just wish molly was already like 10 months old! ha! lol at becky talking about mrs duggar and her breastfeeding thingy...that thing cracks me up. and also i think everybody thought the same as nikki-can't wait till steven and linds have kids b/c we know they will have the cutest kids ever! and ya'll do! love you and we need to come visit soon...we still want to bring ya'll dinner.
Happy Birthday Little Big Man! It'll get easier, with different challenges in the next year - hang in there - it's WONDERFUL!!!!
Your have a beautiful family Lindsey!!!
I agree with Becky, 3 is harder with Sawyer! But how I love my little boy. I can totally relate to the sadness/guilt with breastfeeding. I pumped for Riley until my milk supply plummeted when I went back to work so I stopped. I had every intention of pumping for her until her surgeries were complete, oh well. I think, well I know, that I'm happier just formula feeding her. It's so much easier and I have more time for both of them!
I don't know what it is about having 3 kids, but to nurse while you have 2 older ones is tough! I could only nurse Charlotte for 5 months before we had to give it up. Sometimes, the best thing for baby isn't always best for the family...like having a sane mommy :) If you feel guilty, I promise it will pass soon!!
And, your children are beautiful!
The two year old boy year is a long one, much longer than Molly's twos. I find myself wishing it away at times, but sad about it at others. He sounds a lot like my little man who has until December before his twos draw to a close. I've heard three with boys can be even more powerful. I'll give you the heads up if so.
The kids are precious. Wish we could see you all sometime. Our crew would have lots of fun together!
Precious post Lindsey- and such precious boys! I couldn't keep up my breast milk with my chunky boys either and had to end up doing formula after two months- I felt really bad about it, but Marky has turned out so well (and not sickly at all like I worried he would be b/c he didn't get enough breastmilk antibodies). And the other commenters are right- I think Elle is little Lindsey and Grady is little Stephen- it's so cute! Not sure which team Reese is on yet....
such a cute post about grady. oh, and i was the same way with chunky baby #2...when i had to pump more than once a day to keep up with her i decided to wean her at 6mths. do-able with one baby but not when you have more kids to care for.
your kids are exceptionally beautiful! you are blessed my friend.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your description of your "two-year-old Grady"... so precious and so true. He is adorable.
(This may have even motivated me to blog again... ;) )
